A blog may be the best place to talk about what you care the most, and as a way to show how passionate you are on something. But it may be too much for someone wanting nothing more than a personal page that introduces yourself, and providing different ways to get in touch with you.
Of course, the internet has almost everything you need, a personal homepage? Sure. There are many options out there, like ContactUP, which my design of personal homepage was based on. about.me and Carrd are also a solid choices when you need prettier designs.
What makes these services so great? Well, they are mostly freemium – if you don’t want to pay for it, you get a free subdomain(e.g. karsten.contactup.io), and basic functions. You may also pay to use your own domain as well as other perks provided by respective services. But I’ve got my own web hosting provider and domain, why do I still need to pay for them anyway?
I wanted something similar, so based on its look, I write the page on my own. With my limited HTML knowledge and the help of the Internet, I managed to create my personal page.
This way I don’t have to pay extra coins to have full control over how my personal page looks like or to use my custom domain, and I can adjust it at my whims. It is simple, yet gives useful info about me. Every time people visit the top domain thisiskarsten.me, they would be greeted with this page, with options to visit this blog, or find me on various platforms. Yes, this doesn’t include as much info as a Facebook page, nor a LinkedIn page. But this is how it is supposed to be.
And because I created it, I want to share it. Use it as your personal page too! and consult the W3School HTML Tutorial if you don’t know how to edit it.
